About

My research

I'm a postdoctoral researcher at the Alfred Wegener Institute, building Julia-based glacial hydrology models to couple them to ice-sheet flow models. Subglacial water pressure controls basal sliding, which in turn controls how fast ice reaches the ocean — making hydrology central to projecting sea-level rise from ice sheets like Antarctica and Greenland.

If you're interested in collaborating, have questions about my code, or are looking at glacial hydrology / ice-sheet coupling yourself, please get in touch.

Current Project

FastHydrology.jl — a Julia framework for glacial hydrology

FastHydrology.jl provides shared grid, state, and simulation infrastructure that different glacial hydrology models plug into, computing the effective pressure at the base of an ice sheet — the quantity that couples subglacial water to basal sliding. It can run standalone or be coupled into a larger ice-sheet model such as Yelmo.

It currently implements two models: the fast, simplified model of Kazmierczak et al. (2024), which routes distributed subglacial water flux over the geometric potential and parameterizes effective pressure for both hard and soft beds with an automatic switch between channelized and distributed drainage; and Shakti.jl, my Julia xPU finite-difference solver for the SHAKTI glacial hydrology model. Shakti.jl is a standalone package in its own right, and is also wrapped inside FastHydrology.jl so it can share the same grid/state/simulation infrastructure and drop straight into an ice-sheet coupling.

A general Julia framework for simulating glacial hydrology, designed to plug into ice-sheet models.
